Here is an example of the classic portrait  process that I learned from Ulan Moore, using the stages of painting Pauli Murray’s portrait.

  1. This is a fascinating precision process, similar to traditional icon painting as an act of labor, prayer and love. The results are exquisite, somehow a portrait of your subject’s soul. I love the addition of her clerical color in the final image, showing her long hard journey from Howard University to her ordinations to the Episcopal diaconate and priesthood years later.
