Canton Museum of Art Opening Reception December 2013: Photos of Sacred Voices
The exhibit opened December 5, 1013 and ended March 2, 2014. It was curated by Michele Waalkes, who emailed me with a request to loan Balance for the exhibit.
Sacred Voices showcased works by 37 artists from around the world. It was a companion exhibit to Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible, hand-drawn between 2000 and 2011 by scribes and calligraphers spanning the globe.
“In choosing the pieces for Sacred Voices, I was looking for artists whose beliefs are embedded in their creative process and who convey a distinct spirituality,” said the exhibit’s curator, Michele Waalkes. “But,” she added, “it’s not about differences. It is about how faith inspires art, and how art can also inspire faith.”
I flew to the opening reception, landing just before a snowstorm hit. The exhibit was beautifully mounted, with inspired work. I joined the several artists who came to the reception for a gathering at Journeys Gallery nearby.
